While the world looks down upon addicts, I see shear brilliance and potential

Updated: Mar 17, 2022

It's all too easy these days to dismiss addicts as people with a moral failing or weakness. The simple truth of the matter is, addicts have a very unique 6th sense, where once under control, have the ability to change the world and impact it for the better. I have seen this firsthand not only in my own experience, being a recovering addict myself, but in those around me cut from the same cloth. In everything we do we have this drive to push the envelope and bring about influence. The trick to perfecting this gift is directing our attention towards what you are truly passionate about. Unfortunately, that can't be illicit substances, as we all know where that leads. Sometimes I feel like addicts and alcoholics are old souls who have been to this planet so many times in the past, on our most recent journey, we are partying like it's the end of the world. For all I know, maybe it is.

I wouldn't be staying true to myself if I didn't mention spirituality and finding some type of higher power was crucial to overcoming my vices and getting closer to reaching my full potential. Once I was able to tap into this power and knowledge of the Gods, I felt as if I had the world at my fingertips. My journey to this type of insight came about in an established 12 step program. After my "awakening", I went on to write a book that will probably end up making all my financial dreams come true one day sooner than later. Don't let the world tell you you're sick when it has yet to catch up and properly label the gift you have. Don't fall victim to incorrect stereotypes created by the uniformed. We are like Jedi, it just takes the right type of guidance to unlock our true potential.
